Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar said on Saturday that India’s independent stand on the Ukraine war and its (India’s) firm stand after China’s “deployment of troops” along the LAC in violation of agreements have been appreciated by the entire world. Speaking at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad on the topic ‘Indian Foreign Policy: Transformational Decade’, he said that by taking an independent stand on the Ukraine war, India has expressed the sentiments of many countries. He said that in such circumstances there is a lot of pressure on countries to choose one side. He said: “That we have taken an independent stand, that we have taken decisions that we think are right from the point of view of the welfare of our people, which has been appreciated by the whole world.”
“The world has appreciated our position”
Jaishankar said: “Two years ago, in the middle of the epidemic, China, in violation of the agreement, deployed troops near our border. We stand firm and for two years we have been working on it, there is no leniency and I think , that the world has appreciated our stand.Strong in level and can also be assertive in advancing their interests.Jaishankar said how India managed the COVID-19 pandemic and vaccines, the emergence of a digital India, its emergence as a center for renewable energy, the revival of the Indian economy while holding on to Ukraine, getting its students out safely and Swachh Bharat has contributed significantly to improving the country’s image.
India is now the fifth largest economy
The foreign minister said, “It is necessary for the world to understand India in the right way. India is now the fifth largest economy and a decade ago we used to be the 10th largest. A digital India which has emerged stronger after the pandemic is today one of the fastest growing economies in the world and this is the truth.” The foreign minister said India has a “demographically challenged world”. It has the ability and talent to overcome all its shortcomings and is a “civilized nation which has its own heritage, its own culture and its own experience”.
India’s “brand image” built in the last 10 years
Jaishankar said India is a democracy that discusses its problems, can look after its people and has “time and space for other people in the world”. I have created this “brand image” and I believe that it has changed the image of the country and I believe that the work is ongoing and I am sure that it will continue.
