Uttar Pradesh: A cleric and two others were taken into police custody for allegedly performing the marriage of a 15-year-old Hindu girl to a Hindu man in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district. This action was taken when the members of Hindu Jagran Manch entered the mosque and stopped the marriage and informed the police station. The police have arrested the priest, the groom and the Muslim woman who raised the girl of Nepalese origin.
FIR registered against all three
Members of the Hindu Jagran Manch (HJM) allegedly created ruckus outside the mosque and the local police station. The girl’s father has filed a case against the three for allegedly selling the girl. Circle Officer (City) Ashutosh Pandey said the allegation is yet to be confirmed and further investigation is on. Initial investigation revealed that the girl is a resident of Jyotipur village in Rukangarhi district of Nepal. Her family consists of a father and a sister. The family lives in the Azadnagar slum, Kanpur. Eight years ago, the father handed over this girl to Lal Bano of Ganga Ghat for upbringing.
Muslim woman created pressure
According to reports, 25-year-old Phoolan Singh, a resident of Firozabad, allegedly caught the girl and took her to a mosque on Rajdhani Road after the nikah. Phoolan Singh allegedly asked Maulana Shamim Ahmed for marriage. When told that they are both Hindus, the maulvis initially refused, but Phoolan continued to pressurize the Maulana.

Meanwhile, scores of HJM activists along with the girl’s father barged into the mosque, claiming that the priest forcibly converted the girl to religion and got her married. Maulana Shamim, Lal Bano and Phoolan Singh have been taken into custody by the Ganga Ghat police. they are interrogated. The girl told the police that she was forced to marry a man she did not know and that she had never met him before.
“After marriage wanted to sell the girl in Delhi”
Lal Bano told the police that he was a Muslim and had brought up a Hindu girl as his own daughter. HJM regional secretary Vimal Tiwari said the team was sent after a cleric received information about the forced marriage of a minor girl to a youth from Firozabad. Tiwari said it came to know from the youth’s mobile that money was being sent to him from many places. “It was quite clear that the youths wanted to sell the girl in Delhi after the nikah,” he said.
Maulana gave his statement
Meanwhile, Maulana Shamim said that a Nafees had approached him to offer Namaz. When he got there, a young man asked him to marry the girl who was with him. Knowing about his religion, he flatly refused to get married. He further added, “Suddenly many people entered the mosque and were accused of conversion. But how is it possible that I get two Hindus married?”
