UP news: Search is on to trace the missing 17 people after the boat accident in the Yamuna river in Banda last night. So far, three bodies have been retrieved. NDRF and SDRF teams are engaged in the search operation. At the same time, CM Yogi Adityanath has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of those killed in the accident. He has also ordered to provide immediate help and relief to the victims.

Four people lost their lives in the accident on Thursday, while the search is on for the rest. This boat was going from Banda to Fatehpur. There were about 40 people on the boat more than capacity, of which 20 to 25 were said to be women. These women were going to their mother’s home to tie Rakhi on Rakshabandhan. The boat filled with passengers overturned due to impaired balance in the Yamuna. Police said that on Raksha Bandhan, women and people of Samgra village had reached Yamuna Ghat under Marka police station area of ​​Banda district. In the afternoon from Yamuna Ghat, a boat carrying about 40 people was going to Jarauli Ghat in Fatehpur district when the boat wobbled and overturned due to strong gust of wind in the middle current. About eight people got out by swimming, while 17 people are missing. A search is underway for the missing persons with the help of divers. As soon as the news of the boat sank, a crowd of people from nearby villages reached the ghat.

When the beach reached the river, the boat began to hesitate

An eyewitness said, “We were going from our village to get the wife tied to her in-laws’ house for khaga rakhi. When we reached the river bank, there was only one boat. It was 3 o’clock in the afternoon. Seeing about 40 people boarding the boat and some motorcycles were also kept on the boat.” He further said that when the boat reached the middle of the river, it started to hiccup, after which people got scared and started moving hither and thither.

He said, “Meanwhile, the number of people on one side increased, and the boat immediately capsized. Some people began to swim, but women and children began to drown. Suddenly, people floated in the middle of the river. Meanwhile, a few boats began, that came near, to drag some people. In this also I came on a boat. But many women and children were swept away.”
