Director Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 is doing exceptionally well in theatres. According to trade reports, the film earned Rs 100 crore at the Tamil Nadu box office. Reports suggest that the film is likely to cross the Rs 300 crore mark at the worldwide box office on October 5. Given that today (October 5) is a public holiday, you can expect to see a drop in collections.

It is the fifth film to gross over Rs 100 crore in Tamil Nadu by 2022. Chapter 2 was the other four: Vikram, Valimai, Beast and KGF.

Ponniyin Selvan is doing well in the Indian market as well as in the international market. It is making its mark in the UK, France, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Singapore.
Director Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan is based on the popular Tamil literary novel of the same name by Kalki Krishnamurthy. The historical period drama stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Chiyaan Vikram, Trisha, Jayam Ravi and Karthi in lead roles. Aishwarya Lakshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Kishore, Prabhu and Vikram Prabhu played supporting roles in the film. Music composer AR Rahman, editor Sreekar Prasad and cinematographer Ravi Varman are part of the crew.
