Nitin Gadkari on electric buses: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has emphasized on reducing the use of diesel fuel in the country’s public transport infrastructure. He also said that passenger tickets for electric buses can be 30 percent cheaper than those for diesel buses.

Speaking at a program in Indore on Monday, Gadkari said that the road transport companies in the states across the country can never be profitable because their buses run on expensive diesel. “I am speaking with full responsibility that passenger tickets for AC buses running on electric can easily be up to 30 percent cheaper than those on diesel buses,” he said.

‘The government is going ahead with the plan to run 50,000 electric buses’

Gadkari said the central government is going ahead with the plan to run 50,000 electric buses across the country. He said: “We need to change the country’s transport system with a visionary mindset. Instead of petrol and diesel, the use of cheap fuels such as electricity, green hydrogen, ethanol, bio-CNG and bio-LNG in vehicles is being encouraged more and more . must be given.”

Gadkari also said that reducing the cost of construction works in the infrastructure sector using latest technology is very important but the entire government machinery is not used to it. He said: “Politicians should think 50 years ahead, because many civil servants only do patchwork (fixing a problem in an instant). They only think about the work today because they think that what is to come. He will be transferred in days.”

Foundation laid for five road projects costing 2,300 crores in MP

Gadkari laid the foundation stone for five road projects in Madhya Pradesh costing Rs 2,300 crore under the programme. According to officials, these projects will improve road connectivity between Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra and southern states and will also increase employment and investment opportunities.

The Road Transport and Highways Minister also announced approval for the construction of 20 flyovers in Indore, Bhopal, Sagar, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Ratlam, Khandwa, Dhar, Chhatarpur and Vidisha on the request of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Gadkari said that since 2014 till now, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has sanctioned projects worth Rs 2.5 lakh crore for the state of Madhya Pradesh and by the end of 2024 this figure will increase to Rs 4 lakh crore.
