Nagaland News: An encounter broke out between NSCN-K (Yung Aung) militants in Nagaland’s Mon district in the early hours of Monday. At least two Assam Rifles personnel were injured in the encounter, officials said. The incident took place on the inter-state border with Arunachal Pradesh around 2.35 pm at Nyasa village in Phomching area of ​​the district, officials said. The Assam Rifles said in a statement that force personnel were actively monitoring sensitive areas in view of the tight security on the occasion of Independence Day. Following the tip-off about the movement of the militants, the troops ambushed several times in the area, the statement said.

The villagers also extended full assistance to the security forces

The Assam Rifles said that around 2.35 pm, alert troops noticed suspicious movements in a forested area between Zankham to Nyasa. The statement said the militants opened fire when apprehended, which was retaliated. During this, a group of militants suffered severe casualties. According to the statement, two Assam Rifles personnel were also injured and were evacuated to Jorhat Air Force Hospital. The army force claimed that the local villagers helped in the evacuation of the injured soldiers and they also extended full support to the security forces.

NSCN-K Group is active in some eastern districts of Arunachal Pradesh

The army force said that the villagers supported them (the army) a lot. The statement said the search is ongoing in the area. Mon District Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma said that the administration is yet to receive the report of the militants’ casualties. He said that the situation is currently normal and the atmosphere is peaceful on the occasion of Independence Day. The Yung Aung faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) consists mainly of Nagas from Myanmar and is active in some eastern districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
