Jammu University: The body of an associate professor was found hanging in his residential quarters on Wednesday at the Jammu University campus. The police have provided this information. He was suspended a day ago after some students complained of sexual harassment against him. Chandra Shekhar, 54, a psychology professor from Meerut, lived on campus with his wife and daughter and was upset over the complaint filed against them on September 1, a university official said.
A police official said that when the police entered the room of his residence by breaking open the door, his body was found hanging. He said the body has been taken to Government Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. The official said the complaint against the associate professor was referred to an internal sexual harassment committee for investigation and the professor was suspended based on the previous day’s preliminary report. A case has been registered under relevant sections and a detailed investigation is underway, the official said.
Hurt by allegations of theft in the temple, priest commits suicide
In another news, a priest committed suicide on Wednesday morning in Samdari police station area of Barmer district, bordering Rajasthan. According to the police, the priest was hurt by the allegations of theft in the temple. Police officer Dawood Khan said that 52-year-old Bhimdas, the priest of Raghunathji temple, went to the temple as usual on Wednesday morning and after performing puja, aarti, he closed the doors of the temple and hanged himself.
The police officer said that a suicide note was also found near the body of the priest, in which the priest has written about committing suicide after being injured by falsely accusing him of theft on behalf of a certain community. The priest wrote that he had not committed theft and that some people in the community slandered him. The priest’s family has worshiped in this temple for three generations. The police officer said that there was an incident of theft in the temple late on Monday night after which the people of the Khatri community accused the Bhimdas of theft.
