Deepak Chahar, who returned to the team after a long time away from India, took three wickets for 27 runs in 7 overs. So the same famous Krishna and Akshar Patel also got three wickets each. Kuldeep Yadav bowled economically. At the same time, a wicket was also taken on Mohammad Siraj’s account. Deepak Chahar got the man of the match. Earlier, Indian captain Lokesh Rahul, who returned after nearly three months due to Kovid-19 and sports hernia surgery, left no stone unturned to prove his decision to bowl after winning the toss. Zimbabwe had a very bad start. The team lost four wickets for 31 runs in the 11th over. Apart from a few directionless deliveries, Chahar and Siraj troubled the batsmen a lot on other balls. Finally, Innocent Kaiya’s patience ran out in the sixth over and he was caught by wicketkeeper Sanju Samson trying to play a big shot from Chahar. Kaiya scored four runs in 20 balls.

In Chahar’s next over, second opener Tadivnashe Marumani (08) also caught Samson. Siraj had the experienced Sean Williams (01) caught by Dhawan at first slip while Chahar hit Wesley Madhevere (05) lbw to give Zimbabwe the fourth strike. The dominance of the Indian bowlers can be gauged from the fact that the Zimbabwean batsmen were only able to hit one boundary in the first 10 overs which came from the bat of Marumani. The experienced pair of Chakabwa and Sikandar Raza (12) tried to handle the innings. Chakabwa hit two consecutive fours off Siraj while Raza with a four off Chahar took the team’s score past 50 runs in the 13th over. Krishna broke this partnership by getting Raza caught by Dhawan at first slip and then also ending the innings by Ryan Burle (11). Luke Jongwe (13) with two fours off Krishna completed the team’s hundred in the 26th over. Akshar bowled Chakabwa in the next over and then lbw Jongwe in the next over to make Zimbabwe 110 for eight. Evans and Ngarwa then finished the innings. Both hit fours off Axar while Evans took the team’s score past 150 runs with a six off Kuldeep Yadav in the 36th over.
