Bhagwant Mann: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday requested Border Security Force (BSF) Director General Pankaj Kumar to increase vigilance at the borders. He said vigilance should be increased at state borders to check smuggling of drugs and weapons. An official spokesperson said Pankaj Kumar met Mann at his official residence. During the conversation, CM Mann said that Punjab being a border state, faces many challenges in terms of drug and arms smuggling.
The need to strictly stop the smuggling of drugs and weapons
CM Mann said there is a need to strictly stop drug and arms smuggling as it is a threat to the country’s unity, integrity, security and sovereignty. The Chief Minister said that although there is no production of drugs in the state, Punjab is still fighting the nation’s war on drugs. Mann said the state is the transit route for drug supply and that the state is fighting a tough battle to control drug trafficking in the country.
The need of the hour is to break the drug-gangster-terrorist nexus
Mann said careful planning and flawless strategy against drug smuggling by the BSF and Punjab Police can save the country from the “poison of narcotics”. Mann said the need of the hour was to break the nexus of drug-gangster-terrorists who are trying to disrupt the hard-fought peace in the state. The Chief Minister assured the DG of BSF of his support and cooperation in this regard.
