Gambhir said he will be available in action from September 17, a day after the special match between India Maharajas and world giants. Former India captain and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly will lead the Maharajas in a special match against the Eoin Morgan-led Giants as Legends League Cricket celebrates 75 years of India’s independence at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Gambhir said in an official release I am happy to share that I have committed to participate in the upcoming Legends League Cricket from 17th September. I am looking forward to being on the cricket field again. It would be a privilege and an honor for me to shrug once.

Gambhir played 58 Tests, 147 ODIs and 37 T20Is for India, scoring over 10,000 runs in international cricket. Gambhir played a key role in India’s memorable T20 World Cup victory in 2007. The left-handed opener was the star of the show in the final of the 2011 World Cup, which India won by defeating Sri Lanka in the final in Mumbai.

Gambhir was also an influential player in the Indian Premier League, leading Kolkata Knight Riders to titles in 2012 and 2014. Gambhir retired from all forms of cricket in 2018. Raman Raheja, co-founder and CEO of Legends League Cricket said, “Who will forget Gautam’s match winning 97 runs in the 2011 World Cup final?” I am sure fans will look forward to witness the same nervous performance from Gautam and other iconic players in Season 2.
