After recovering from a slow start, Pakistan scored 193 for two with the help of Mohammad Rizwan’s 78 off 57 balls when he was sent in to bat first. In reply, the Hong Kong team were bowled out for 38 runs in 10.4 overs. Pakistan reached the Super Four by finishing second from Group A.
This is Pakistan’s biggest win in T20 format. He will now face Group A’s top team India on Sunday. The Hong Kong team, who batted somewhat better against India, could not stand in front of the Pakistani bowlers. Naseem Shah took two wickets in the third over. After this, spinner Shadab Khan took four for eight in two overs and Mohammad Nawaz took three wickets for five runs. Earlier, as Hong Kong bowlers had put the Indian batsmen under pressure, similarly Pakistan did not let Pakistan start well.
It became difficult for Rizwan and Fakhar Zaman to hit fours and sixes. Pakistan scored 64 runs for one wicket in the first ten overs. Zaman scored 53 runs in 41 balls while Khushdil Shah finally scored 35 runs in 15 balls to give Pakistan a strong score. Pakistan captain Babar Azam failed yet again and returned to the pavilion after scoring nine runs. To increase the run-rate, he played a shot in the air off the ball from spinner Ehsan Khan and the bowler took the catch by diving to his right.
Rizwan hit the first four in the fifth over to medium pacer Aayush Shukla. In the 11th over, Rizwan bowled leg-spinner Mohammad Gazanfar in the first six of Pakistan’s innings. Fakhar increased the run-rate by hitting the spinners for two sixes. Battling the heat and humidity, Rizwan started playing quickly after scoring a half-century. The Hong Kong bowlers lost their momentum in the death overs due to inexperience. Pakistan scored 77 runs in the last five overs. 29 runs were scored in the 20th over by Aijaz Khan which included five byes and four sixes from Khushdil.
