New Delhi. Veteran India off-spinner R Ashwin has defended head coach Rahul Dravid’s absence from the tour of New Zealand, saying the support staff also needed a break after working so hard in preparation for the T20 World Cup. A few days ago, Ravi Shastri, who was the head coach of the Indian team before Dravid, raised the question why the Indian coach needs a break when he gets a break of two-three months during the Indian Premier League (IPL). Ashwin said that even the coaching staff gets tired physically and mentally.

Former Indian batsman and head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) VVS Laxman has been given the responsibility of coaching the Indian team in Dravid’s absence. Ashwin said on his ‘You Tube’ channel, “I would say that Laxman has gone there with a completely different team because that too can be interpreted differently.” Rahul Dravid and his team have done extensive planning ahead of the T20 World Cup. I have seen them up close so I say this. ,

“He had a specific plan for each venue and each opponent. So they have to be tired not only mentally but physically and everyone needs a break. Ashwin said, “As soon as the New Zealand series is over, we have to to tour Bangladesh. Hence, there is a separate coaching team led by Laxman for this tour. Shastri had said, “I don’t believe in brakes. I want to understand my team and my players. To be honest, why do you need so many breaks. You have two-three months in IPL for a break, which coach has you enough time to rest.
