He said, “I had a good catch last time too. Of course, I won’t say I lost my wicket easily, but I should have converted my good start into a hundred. But I am happy to contribute to the team’s victory.
Port of Spain| Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer has been in superb form in the current tour of the West Indies, but he is disappointed not to be able to convert his fifties into hundreds.
Batting at number three in the second ODI, Iyer scored 63 off 71 balls and played a key role in India’s thrilling two-wicket win.
He shared a 99-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Sanju Samson. Samson scored 54 runs while later Axar Patel scored an unbeaten 64 to take India to the target.
Iyer, who scored 54 runs in India’s three-run win in the first ODI, said he would look to score a century in the next match. Iyer said after the match, “I am happy with the score I scored today but I am unhappy with the way I came out. I should have easily led the team to the target.
I started well but unfortunately lost my wicket. Hopefully in the next match I will do better and be able to score a century.
The 27-year-old batsman regrets not being able to score a century so far. He said, “I had a good catch last time too. Of course, I won’t say I lost my wicket easily, but I should have converted my good start into a hundred. But I am happy to contribute to the team’s victory.
Iyer said, “It is really good that I have got half-centuries in two consecutive matches, but I should have converted them into hundreds because I started well.
You don’t always get a start like this in international cricket and convert as many fifties into hundreds as possible advantages. I had a good chance today.”
Iyer said he enjoys batting at number three. “It’s one of the best places to bat. You may have to go to the crease in difficult situations. If the wicket falls early, you have to come to the crease early and play the role of grooming.
Iyer said: “Also, when there is a good partnership for the first wicket, then you have to carry it forward. I am having a lot of fun batting at number three.” He credited his great form to hard work.
Iyer said, “I am getting these good results because of hard work. I have been working really hard recently because the conditions keep changing and you have to play matches continuously. In such a situation you have to be fit in every way .
