By making Draupadi Murmu the President, the BJP has not only targeted the tribals, it will not be surprising if it dangles reservations for Muslims and Christians to burnish its image in the Arab and Christian nations.
Nowadays there is a debate going on in the Supreme Court that why should not the Muslims and Christians of India also be given the facility of reservation? Most of the tribal and scheduled people who have converted to Christianity or Muslim are poor, illiterate and working people. What sin have they committed that they don’t get reservation? This discrimination on the basis of religion is totally unfair.
When the constitution was made, there was a provision for reservation only for scheduled and tribals, who are Hindus, but Sikhs were added in 1956 and Buddhists in 1990, but now Article 341 says that whatever is said is out. There should be religions, no reservation will be given. What could be a bigger joke? Whoever becomes a Jain, Muslim, Christian or Jew or becomes an atheist, is he no longer an Indian?

I believe that changing one’s religion or religion does not change one’s caste. I have experienced this many times with Muslim friends from Afghanistan and Pakistan. Giving reservation on the basis of caste is toxic, even worse if it is given or not given on religious basis. Congress first gave reservation on the basis of caste. His aim was to do good to the people but it proved to be a failure. A new elite emerged.
A handful of people have got chairs based on birth rather than merit. However, the Congress government had introduced some reservations in the name of religion during the previous regime. This has led to a reduction in reservation for Scheduled Tribes and Tribes, as the Supreme Court has upheld only 50 percent reservation. These reservations are given less for the welfare of the reserved, more for their bulk vote.

By making Draupadi Murmu the President, the BJP has not only targeted the tribals, it will not be surprising if it dangles reservations for Muslims and Christians to burnish its image in the Arab and Christian nations. Perhaps that is why now he has decided to form a commission to investigate this question.
This could prove to be a very dangerous decision for India. If we want to make India a strong nation, people have to stop indulging in caste and religion discrimination. Reservation in government jobs should be stopped completely. Only in education, without caste-religion discrimination, only the needy should be reserved and given as many facilities as possible.
