Lakhimpur Kheri Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjeev Suman told reporters that according to the preliminary investigation, the girls had left the house along with two accused Junaid and Sohail on Wednesday afternoon. The girl’s mother had previously claimed that she had been abducted. The SP said, “Junaid and Sohail have confessed to strangling the girls after raping them. Both were in a relationship with these two sisters. The girls insisted on marriage after which they strangled them. Gaya. Case registered on complaint of victim’s mother

The victim’s mother had filed a complaint at the Nighasan Kotwali police station on Wednesday evening that her daughters had been raped and murdered. The family later found the girls dead hanging from a tree in a field about a kilometer away from their village. On learning about the incident, angry villagers demonstrated at Nighasan junction. The police took possession of the bodies and sent them to the district headquarters by ambulance, while SP Suman and Additional Superintendent of Police (APS) Arun Kumar Singh spoke to the villagers and explained them. A large number of policemen were deployed in the village as a security measure. Senior officials from Lucknow have also been sent to the spot.
