The suspended labor commissioner of Andaman and Nicobar, RL Rishi, was arrested on Monday in connection with the gang-rape of a 21-year-old woman. According to the police, Rishi was taken into custody by the Andaman and Nicobar police after he reached here by a flight from Chennai around Three accused have so far been arrested in this case, including former Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Jitendra Narayan and Port Blair businessman Sandeep Singh alias Rinku. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to probe the gang-rape allegations and invited the woman to the chief secretary’s house with the promise of a government job.
The incident took place in April
It is claimed that the girl was raped between April 14 and May 1. The SIT has questioned Narayan thrice. On November 2, the Andaman and Nicobar police had announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh each for information about Singh and Rishi. Singh, who is missing, was arrested from Haryana on November 13. The FIR in this case was registered on October 1 when Narayan was posted as chairman and managing director of Delhi Financial Corporation.
Woman met labor commissioner for job
The government suspended him with immediate effect on October 17. The woman had claimed in the complaint that her father and stepmother could not take care of her financial needs hence she needed a job and some people introduced her to the labor commissioner as he was close to the then chief secretary.
