New Delhi, 31 July. Senior opener Lokesh Rahul has been left out of the Indian squad traveling to Zimbabwe for next month’s ODI series due to an aggravating leg muscle injury. Due to this injury, Rahul’s chances of playing in the T20 World Cup may be affected. Despite a successful sports hernia operation, Rahul is not believed to have recovered from his abdominal injury. He also has swelling in his leg muscles.
India will play three ODIs in Zimbabwe on August 18, 20 and 22. Rahul tweeted: “I would like to clarify a few things regarding my health and fitness. In June my surgery was successful and I started training with the hope of returning to the national team for the West Indies tour. Unfortunately, as I moved towards full fitness , I was found to be Kovid positive.” Rahul expressed hope to return to the team for the Asia Cup to be held in the UAE. He further wrote: “Obviously this has set things back a few weeks, but I want to recover as quickly as possible and be available for selection as soon as possible.”
“It’s the biggest honor to represent the country and I can’t wait to wear the blue jersey (Team India jersey),” Rahul said. Apart from Sundar, fast bowler Deepak Chahar has returned to the team. Chahar was undergoing rehabilitation due to a leg muscle and then a back injury. Chahar has not played competitive cricket for the last five months and was also ruled out of IPL 2022. A BCCI source told PTI on Saturday, “Lokesh Rahul has recovered from Kovid-19 but his leg muscle injury seems to have resurfaced.
He was likely to be picked for the Zimbabwe tour, but now it has not been decided when he will return. One-day internationals are not the team’s priority right now with less than three months left for the T20 World Cup. The source said, “Virat has spoken to the selectors that he will be available from the Asia Cup.
The team’s top players barely get rest from the Asia Cup to the end of the World T20. So it’s two weeks after the West Indies tour where he can be rested.” Washington’s return was expected. He has been out of the team first due to a hand injury and then due to Kovid-19 infection. He underwent successful rehabilitation on National Cricket Academy and has also taken five wickets in an innings in three matches for Lancashire. “In Washington’s case, the wait was when he would make a comeback as he is India’s number one spinner.
He needed time to play games, which he got. Shikhar Dhawan will continue to lead the team in the absence of Rohit, Rahul and Pant. Rahul Tripathi, who was included in the squad for the T20 International against Ireland, has also been included in the ODI squad for the first time. Team: Shikhar Dhawan (captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Deepak Hooda, Rahul Tripathi, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Avesh Khan, Pranandik Krishna, Mohamepak Siraj and.
