There will be a hearing in the Supreme Court today regarding the Morbi bridge accident case in Gujarat. The court will on Monday hear a petition seeking to set up a judicial commission to investigate the bridge collapse incident. A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice Hima Kohli will hear the PIL filed by advocate Vishal Tiwari. The petition states that the incident shows the officers’ negligence and gross failure. Advocate Vishal Tiwari had sought an urgent listing of the case on November 1.

A total of 134 people lost their lives

On this, the Supreme Court had said that it will hear the case soon. A total of 134 people, including women and children, were killed when a British-era cable-stayed bridge over the Machchu River collapsed in Gujarat’s Morbi town on October 30. In his petition, lawyer Vishal Tiwari said, “In the last decade, there have been several incidents in our country where mismanagement, dereliction of duty and neglect of maintenance have resulted in huge loss of human life which could have been avoided.” ‘

The country was shaken by the accident

The accident in Morbi in Gujarat shook the entire country. This bridge has been closed for repairs for the past 7 months. According to the local administration, the work of repairing and maintaining the bridge was given on a 15-year lease to a private company. But this company did not take any fitness certificate before opening the bridge to the public. The bridge was inaugurated by the grandson of company owner Jaisukhbhai Patel on Gujarati New Year’s Day (October 25). On Saturday, Jaisukhbhai Patel had claimed in a press conference that after repairs, this bridge has now become so strong that no one can move it for the next 8 to 10 years.
