मुलायम परिवार के गढ़ मैनपुरी संसदीय सीट के समीकरण समझिये

Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat of Uttar Pradesh is very special. This seat is considered to be the stronghold of the Yadav family. Till date BJP has not been able to register victory in this seat. Even in 2014, when there was a Modi wave across the country, his magic did not work in this seat.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has fielded his wife Dimple Yadav to save her father’s political legacy, indicating that he does not trust anyone about Manupari. When the Samajwadi Party fielded Dimple Yadav in the by-election to the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat, which had fallen vacant after Mulayam’s death, the people of the Mulayam clan who were contesting for the seat, were in for a shock. Shivpal Yadav is also upset with nephew Akhilesh Yadav. Apart from this, the names of leaders like Dharmendra Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav from the Yadav family were also discussed for this seat, but Akhilesh has expressed confidence in his wife Dimple. In this way, Akhilesh Yadav will maintain the special legacy of Netaji in his family. Not only this, the Samajwadi Party has made a big bet for Dimple to win and former minister Alok Shakya has been made the district president of Mainpuri.

Samajwadi Party’s Mulayam Singh Yadav, who contested from Mainpuri in 2014 and 2019, won. Even after leaving Mainpuri for Azamgarh, his nephew Tej Pratap Yadav won the by-election. Now after his death, BJP has started trying to feed the lotus here with full strength. From 1952 to 1971, the Congress won the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat. In the anti-incumbency wave of 1977, the Janata Party defeated the Congress candidate. However, a by-election was held here in 1978 in which the Congress returned to the seat. In 1980, the Congress once again lost the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat and in 1984 its candidate won again. This was the year when the Congress won the seat for the last time. After forming the Samajwadi Party in 1992, Mulayam Singh Yadav contested from this seat in 1996 and won by a huge margin. The Samajwadi Party has held this seat in every election since then.

Mainpuri Parliamentary Constituency has five assemblies. It includes Mainpuri, Bhoggaon, Kishni, Karahal and Jaswantnagar. Let us tell you that Mulayam’s brother Shivpal Singh Yadav is an MLA from Jaswantnagar assembly seat and he has announced to support his brother in every way for his brother’s victory even after breaking away from SP. In the 2017 assembly elections in UP, out of five assembly seats, the BJP won only one seat in Bhogav, while the remaining four seats were won by SP candidates.

Mainpuri district has a total of 17.4 lakh voters out of which 7 lakh are Yadav voters. The second number is Shakya electorate, which has about 3 lakh voters. Thus, Akhilesh Yadav has tried to reach out to Shakyas apart from the Yadav community so that there is no dent in the electoral victory. Earlier in the 2019 general elections, the BJP had fielded Prem Singh Shakya against Mulayam Singh Yadav, who got over 4 lakh votes. While Mulayam Singh got 5 lakh more votes and the margin of victory was less than one lakh. The BJP candidate is believed to have secured a significant number of votes from Shakya voters.

In such a situation, this time Akhilesh Yadav has already started efforts to ensure that votes are not split in any way. If we look at the figures of 2019, it was being said that it is not so easy to maintain the stronghold of Mulayam Singh Yadav. However, this time the SP also hopes to get sympathy votes. Apart from this there is hope of infiltrating the Shakyas by the Shakya district president. Before announcing Dimple Yadav as its candidate, the Samajwadi Party has tried to woo the Shakya voters by making former minister Alok Shakya the district president. Party people say that former minister Alok Kumar Shakya has been an MLA thrice. His father Ram Otar Shakya has also been an MLA twice. Till now BJP is preparing to bet on Shakya’s face from here but SP has taken the equation by making him the district president. The BJP earlier this year won Rampur and Azamgarh Lok Sabha seats, known as SP strongholds. So for SP to win Mainpuri is now a question of prestige.

It is worth mentioning that Dimple Yadav entered Parliament for the first time in 2012. He won the Kannauj seat in the Lok Sabha by-election, which was vacated by Akhilesh Yadav after becoming CM. After this, Dimple also won the 2014 general election, but was defeated by BJP’s Brajesh Pathak in 2019. Now if Dimple Yadav wins in Mainpuri then it will be her third innings in Lok Sabha. In the Mainpuri Lok Sabha by-election, the BJP has taken a dig at SP President Akhilesh Yadav’s wife Dimple Yadav being announced as the SP candidate. Rakesh Tripathi, the party’s state spokesperson, said that the workers in the SP are only there to raise slogans and only the Saifai clan has the right to contest elections. The state BJP spokesperson has said that the SP workers are only left to raise slogans of Zindabad Murdabad. He said that Akhilesh Yadav has made it clear by fielding Dimple Yadav in the by-election that he cannot come out of family politics.
