India’s Suryakumar Yadav has overtaken Pakistan captain Babar Azam to reach the third position in the list of T20 International players in the latest International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings released on Wednesday. Suryakumar impressed with a 46-run knock during a four-wicket loss in the first T20I of the three-match series against Australia in Mohali on Tuesday. Thanks to this innings, he also narrowed the gap between him and Pakistan opener Mohammad Rizwan, who is at the top of the batting rankings. Suryakumar is now only 45 rating points behind Rizwan.

Rizwan scored a half-century during Pakistan’s loss to England in Karachi on Tuesday and maintained his lead in the batting charts with a career-best 825 runs. South Africa’s Aiden Markram (792 points) is in second place ahead of Suryakumar (780 points). Babar has slipped to fourth place after not performing as expected in the Asia Cup, scoring just 31 runs in the first match of the series against England. England’s David Malan (725) is fifth, while Australia’s captain Aaron Finch (715) is sixth. Apart from Suryakumar, India’s star player Hardik Pandya has jumped 22 places to be at 65th. He scored an unbeaten 65 in the first T20 against Australia.

Left-arm spinner Axar Patel has moved up 24 places to 33rd in the bowlers’ list after taking three wickets on Tuesday. Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood continues to top the bowlers’ list after taking crucial wickets of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul in the first T20I. South Africa’s Tabrez Shamsi is second in the bowlers’ list, while leg-spinner Adil Rashid, who took two wickets against Pakistan, has moved up to third. Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf has gained four places to be 21st in the list of T20 International bowlers. His teammate Mohammad Nawaz has also moved up three places to 31st position.
