Karachi. Pakistan pacer Naseem Shah has been hospitalized with a serious viral infection that will prevent him from playing in the fifth T20 International against England in Lahore on Wednesday. Naseem’s place in the fifth T20 International was almost certain, but the youngster had to be admitted to hospital after his health deteriorated late on Tuesday night. Although he is feeling better now, his participation in the remaining seven matches is in doubt.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said in a statement, “He was taken to the hospital due to viral infection but now he is doing better.” According to the statement, “He will not play tonight and the rest of the match. “Any decision to play will be made on the advice of the medical committee.” A source close to the team said he has also been tested for dengue and the result is awaited .Dengue cases have increased significantly in the city since last month and thousands of people are falling victim to it every day.

Naseem played the opening match of the series, but after that he was out of the XI for three matches. This 21-year-old bowler is also a part of Pakistan’s T20 World Cup squad. After playing four matches in Karachi, the teams from Pakistan and England have reached Lahore for the remaining three matches. The series is now tied 2-2.
