West Zone had bundled out Central Zone for 128 after scoring 257 in the first innings, giving them a first innings lead of 129 runs. Shaw then ensured with a brilliant innings that the West Zone tightened its grip. The team had scored 130 runs for the loss of three wickets in the second innings till stumps.
After scoring a century in the quarter-finals against a weak northeast team, Sau razed the attack in the central zone. After this, Shaw increased the running speed by making the desired shot. But despite this, West Zone lost three wickets which included the wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Ajinkya Rahane. Earlier, the experienced Unadkat (3 for 24) took the first wickets while spinner Tanush Kotian also dismissed three bowlers, including the wicket of Karn Sharma.
At the start of the day, West Zone started the game at 252 for nine on the second day, but the team could only add five runs to it. Rahul Tripathi (67 runs) was dismissed by fast bowler Aniket Chaudhary (2 for 48) to end the innings in the West Zone. Left-arm spinner Kumar Karthikeya Singh was the most successful bowler, taking five wickets for 66 runs. Apart from Tripathi’s half-century, opener Shaw scored 60 and Shams Mulani scored 41 runs.
