Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi resigned from his post with immediate effect on Friday following the team’s poor performance in the T20 World Cup. Afghanistan team could not win a single match in T20 World Cup. However, Nabi cited disappointment with the team’s preparations for the tournament and disagreements with management and the selection committee about stepping down from the captaincy.
The team’s campaign in the T20 World Cup ended with a four-run loss to Australia here on Friday, soon after the 37-year-old announced his decision on social media. “In the last year, our team’s preparation was not at the level that a captain would want for a big tournament. Nabi wrote, “Even in the last few tours, the team management, the selection committee and I were not unanimous, which affected the balance of the team. That is why I am announcing my resignation as captain with immediate effect and I will continue to play for my country as and when the management and the team require.
