Jharkhand News: In Jharkhand, the husband of the head of Birni block in Birni police station area of Giridih district has been accused of raping an eight-year-old girl. Police sources said the incident took place on Thursday. The victim, a resident of Birni block, has been admitted to Shaheed Nirmal Mahato Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) in Dhanbad and her condition is stable, he said. He said the girl was allegedly molested by the man of the head of Birni block after which the victim was admitted to Sadar Hospital Giridih in a critical condition from where she was referred to SNMMCH on Thursday after her condition worsened.
Police said the accused has been identified as Minku Mandal, husband of Kanchan Devi, head of Birni block in Giridih. The victim’s father told the police that his daughter had gone to bathe in the river with her mother and Kanchan Devi was also with them during this time. According to the complaint, the chief had forgotten to take the soap from the house, so he sent the girl to his house to get the soap. It is alleged that on reaching home, Minku Mandal allegedly raped the girl after which the girl reached the river in an inebriated state and informed the mother about the incident.
The girl’s mother informed the police about the incident. Police reached the spot and investigated and sent the girl to Giridih Sadar Hospital for treatment. From where he was later referred to Dhanbad. SNMMCH superintendent Arun Barnwal said the girl is under treatment and her condition is stable now. Police said Minku Mandal has absconded and police are conducting raids by forming multiple teams to trace him.
