“At that time, we got world-class players like Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan Singh and Ashish Nehra. They were all very talented, but they needed support early in their careers, which Sourav gave. They also got the freedom to play in their own way.But who will be the next captain? He said: “Before I resigned the captaincy, during the Indian team’s tour of Australia, I had suggested Sourav to be the vice captain of the team. I had seen him up close and played cricket with him. I knew he could take Indian cricket forward. He was a good captain.

He said: “After this, Sourav did not look back and his performance lies ahead of us.” Tendulkar said: “Sourav and I tried our best so the team can win the match. We did not think more than this.” Ganguly played for India for the first time in 1992 and then came back in 1996. At that time there were no mobile phones but both kept in touch with each other.

“During the tour in 1991, we lived in the same room and had a lot of fun with each other. We had known each other since they were under 15 days, so the relationship was good. We met even after that trip, but there were no cell phones then. We kept not constant contact, but the friendship was there. ” They first met at a junior tournament hosted by BCCI in Kanpur. After this, they both spent a lot of time together in the annual camp held under the supervision of the late Vasu Paranjpe in Indore. Tendulkar said: “We spent a lot of time together in the U15 camp in Indore and got to know each other. From there, our friendship started.

He told how he, Jatin Paranjpe (Vasu’s son) and Kedar Godbole had poured water into Ganguly’s room. He said: “I remember Saurav sleeping in the afternoon. Jatin, Kedar and I filled his room with water. When he woke up he did not understand what had happened. His suitcases were floating in the water. Later he was told that it was our food.We used to just have fun with each other.
