The Ministry of Sports, Anurag Thakur, on Friday launched three major initiatives for its department, which include an online portal for the sports department’s schemes, the website of the National Sports Development Fund (NSDF) and a revised scheme for cash rewards, national welfare and pensions for athletes.

Active athletes can now apply online on the sports department’s portal, while companies, PSUs and individuals can contribute to the NSDFA Foundation on its new website. Thakur described the initiative as ‘revolutionary’ and said it would help create transparency and accountability, in addition to boosting the government’s Digital India mission.

Thakur said: “We will continue to provide facilities to our players, but if we can integrate technology with these facilities, it can be very beneficial.”

He said on the occasion of the launch: “If a player is to receive awards and recognition from the government after performing well, then he had to go through the association or earlier through the Sports Authority of India after which it would be investigated and This would provide players their contingent. It would take about a year or two to get the amount.,

“We have made the process simpler and more transparent. In simple words, we have used technology for greater transparency and accountability, and this will help players apply online and get their money in a limited amount of time.
