Hasnain replaces the injured Afridi in the Pakistan squad for the Asia Cup. Pakistan are placed in Group A alongside arch-rivals India and a qualifier. Pakistan will play its first match against India on Sunday. Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are in Group B. The top two teams from both groups qualify for the Super Four.

Fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain has been included in Pakistan’s squad for the Asia Cup to be held in the United Arab Emirates in place of injured Shaheen Shah Afridi. 22-year-old Hasnain made a comeback to cricket in June and changed his bowling action. He was suspended in February after umpires complained about his bowling action during the Big Bash League. The right-arm pacer has so far taken 17 wickets in 18 T20Is and played his last T20 International against West Indies in Karachi in December 2021.

Hasnain is representing the Oval Invincibles at The Hundred competition in England and will join the Pakistan team in the United Arab Emirates. Afridi has been ruled out of the Asia Cup and next month’s seven-match T20I series against England as doctors have advised him to take at least four to six weeks of rest to fully recover from his knee injury.
