“We will miss him and as an England fan it’s like drinking a bitter tear. It’s really sad that we are not getting Ben’s services in this format but the loss of ODI cricket will definitely benefit England in Test cricket.
Chester Lee Street | England’s limited-overs captain Jos Buttler described Ben Stokes as a generation-born player, while his predecessor Eoin Morgan called the all-rounder a true leader.
Stokes, the hero of England’s 2019 World Cup victory, has announced that he is withdrawing from ODIs, leaving the cricket world in a turbulent state. He played his last ODI against South Africa at his home ground in Durham and scored just five races.
England lost this match by 62 runs. Butler said after the match: “A player who plays like Ben has been born one for generations. So it will be a challenge for us (the ODI team) to do our best without him.
“We will miss him and as an England fan it is like drinking a bitter tear. It is really sad that we are not getting Ben’s services in this format but the loss of ODI cricket will definitely benefit England in Test cricket.” Stokes will continue to play in the T20s and lead the Test team. Former captain Morgan is also upset about Stokes’ retirement from ODI.
“He’s the true leader who assures that anything is possible. It’s a great pleasure to play with him for so many years and sad to see him retire at the age of 31.
