आरक्षण जन्म के आधार पर नहीं, जरूरत के आधार पर दिया जाना चाहिए

When the government brought a bill in Parliament in 2019 making poverty the basis for reservation, 323 MPs supported it and only 3 MPs opposed it. But today no leader or party has the courage to fulfill Dr. Ambedkar’s wish.

Who will not welcome the decision of the Supreme Court that the basis of 10 percent reservation in government jobs and educational institutions will be only poverty. This is a 10% reservation extra. That means there is no cut in the already ongoing 50 percent reservation. However, two out of five judges have ruled against this reservation and the Tamil Nadu government has also opposed it. The arguments of the two judges who ruled against him are not correct. They say that giving more than 50 percent reservation is a violation of the Constitution.

The limit of 50 per cent reservation is not fixed in any section of the Constitution. So let’s assume that because of the Indira Sahni case that came to the Supreme Court in 1992! Will the Supreme Court sit where it sat 30 years ago? At the same time, the Narsingh Rao government announced to give reservation to people on the basis of poverty. The same announcement was made a part of the constitution by the BJP government in 2019. Now both Congress and BJP are in competition to loot credit, but I am against all reservations given on the basis of birth, whether it is given to Scheduled Castes or Backward Classes or so-called minorities.

In my opinion reservation should be given on the basis of need and not on the basis of birth. I am glad that the governments of Narasimha Rao and Manmohan Singh have taken steps in that direction and Modi is to be congratulated for showing the courage to take a firm decision in this matter. But this work is still incomplete. When the government brought a bill in Parliament in 2019 making poverty the basis for reservation, 323 MPs supported it and only 3 MPs opposed it. But today no leader or party has the courage to fulfill Dr. Ambedkar’s wish. He said that the reservation given on the basis of birth is sufficient for ten years. Now it has been dozens of years since he was born. It has become a means of promoting ineptitude, passivity, discrimination, racism and the creamy class in the country. Due to this reason, all the governments of the country are falling victim to Revadi culture.

The greed for bulk votes i.e. the greed for the chair has become so intense in all our leaders that they have pushed the national interest under the door. If reservation in education and medicine is given on economic basis instead of jobs, who wants to survive on government begging? Reservation on the basis of poverty would have proved much better than caste and communal reservation. It will become the foundation of unity and equality in India and in 75 years India will be counted among the richest and most powerful countries in the world. This decision of the Supreme Court is an incomplete but very commendable beginning.
